Mailchimp, a well-known email service provider, announced that their email automation is now available at zero cost.
Several years ago, Mailchimp began as a paid email marketing tool. Millions of their customers benefitted from their triggered email features, which made life easier when it comes to automatic email dispatching and responding. Those were the times when email automation was only available in the company’s enterprise edition for paying customers.
However, recently Mailchimp had a change of heart. In their announcement, they made the news official said, all 15 million users of the free version can also create targeted emails triggered.
According to an interview with the VP of product management, John Foreman said that “if users want to send beautifully branded receipts and shipping notifications to their customers with additional product marketing in them, that’s free.”
“No one is offering this breadth of functionality to this many businesses at this (non-existent) price point. Few even have these features at all, even for paid users,” Foreman added.
So, what does Mailchimp get from this?
VP of product management, Foreman, said that offering free triggered emails for all users “allows them to build their brand and sell more stuff, which helps us attract and retain more customers, ultimately helping MailChimp grow.”
According to Mailchimp’s announcement, “automation empowers our customers to create sophisticated campaigns that help them compete with bigger companies, but we know that not everyone has a large list or the budget to upgrade to a paid account when they first get started”.
“Small businesses look to MailChimp to help them build their brand, and we want to give everyone—no matter their account type or list size—the opportunity to use our marketing automation tools to do just that,” the company added.
