iPhone X, the latest smartphone by Apple, had just been released last November 3. Over just a month, people all across the world, especially in China, are already breaking their iPhone X units.
The price of each iPhone X does not come lightly. It seems, some Apple fans in China are too clumsy to be unwittingly destroying these smartphones that cost a lot. So, we ask why.
The new iPhone X has a sleek front and back, edge-to-edge glass screen. Sure, it gives a fancy look, but the glass screens also mean, one drop and it can result in a smashed phone. Damages on the screen can be a major drawback, especially now that the new smart phone also features facial recognition to unlock the screen.
After 10 years, Apple has made substantial innovations on iPhone X. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook believes it will ‘set the path for technology for the next decade’. So, fans waited in long lines, many of them slept outside the Apple stores just to get their hands on the Apple’s newest smartphone. However, some tech enthusiasts are not as astonished as the iPhone devotees. With a hefty cost of $999 in the US and, controversially, £999 in the UK for each device, some technology junkies said they expected more.
Without an insurance, fixing a damaged iPhone demand a high price. Repairing a broken edge-to-edge screen costs £286.44 ($376.05), and that’s not even a fixed cost. A damaged screen may also mean that there are other underlying phone issues that also need some fixing. Smashed screens may also mean there’s a broken mic or a speaker, where repair costs may rocket up to £419 ($549).
To prevent all this wasteful spending, the solution is easy. If you just got your new and shiny iPhone X, you may want to purchase an insurance for it as well. The AppleCare+ insurance program only costs £129 ($168) that is good for two years. In case you’re high-level clumsy, you get drunk, or your girlfriend smashes your phone, you can get the screen fixed for only £25 (£32). Not a bad deal for a butterfingered like you.
